PRACTICE AREAS

Antitrust

The firm is ranked as a leading law firm in all matters relating to antitrust and competition law.  The Legal 500 recognises that "within Competition, Tadmor & Co. is a first tier firm" and "'a very good name in antitrust', largely as a result of the well-connected and 'excellent' David Tadmor's reputation as former head of the Israel Antitrust Authority (IAA)".

Our Antitrust team includes many of Israel's leading experts in the field and many of our lawyers have worked within key regulatory bodies and within the industry itself.

The practice is lead by ex-antitrust Commissioner, Dr. David E. Tadmor, who was named by Chambers Global as being in the top class of antitrust lawyers in Israel and as being "in a league of his own" and "the first port of call".

Shai Bakal, formerly a section chief and the head of the Israeli Antitrust Authority's merger team, leads a group of expert lawyers who counsel and represent local and foreign clients in all civil antitrust matters, including merger review, restrictive trade practices and dominance issues. During his term at the IAA, Shai wrote major policy documents including the "Antitrust Commissioner's premerger filing guidelines" and he has unique expertise in this field. Shai represented the IAA before the antitrust court in major cases relating to mergers, retailing and IP.

Our experts in criminal antitrust law are considered the best in their field. David Gideoni and Dr. Ittai Paldor, both former section chiefs and lead criminal prosecutors on behalf of the IAA, lead the firm's practice in this field. Both David and Ittai are very experienced litigators, and handled high profile and precedent setting criminal cases.

As antitrust law and regulation becomes increasingly complex and widespread, our team offers a comprehensive range of skills and experiences to meet the anti-trust and regulatory challenges facing many businesses. Our Antitrust and Regulatory Group, which is comprised of four partners and six associates, offers a top-level, client-focused service, and our specialisation covers all civil and criminal aspects of antitrust law, as well as regulation in areas such as Telecommunications, Gas and Oil, Price Supervision and the Environment. By understanding the way in which the regulators operate and the intricacies of the antitrust provisions, we are better able to provide our clients with commercially focused and targeted advice that minimizes their level of risk and maximizes commercial benefit.

We regularly advise on the antitrust and regulatory aspects of some of Israel's most significant commercial transactions. We act for numerous Israeli companies and multinational corporations in this area of law and have acted on the following deals:

  • The firm represented the First International Bank of Israel in an appeal on the Antitrust Commissioner ruling regarding information exchange between banks.
  • The firm successfully obtained the IAA's approval to the major telecommunications merger between Partner Telecommunications and 012 Smile.
  • The firm successfully represented Apple Inc in its applications to approve iPhone distribution agreements.
  • The firm advised and represented leading international corporations in significant and complex foreign to foreign mergers such as the Comcast - NBCU merger and the Novartis - Alcon merger.
